I watched War photographer in my journalism class yesterday and it moved me so much. I just cant imagine going out to these poor countries and taking pictures of people suffering. James you are a remarkable man. Personally, I feel sad and frustrated that this is going on today. I just wish the western world like Cananda and the United States would do more to help these people who are suffering of famine and who have diseases. I myself feel that I want to help, even though I dont have a lot of money, being a college student. If you know of any organizations that I can donate to. Please E-mail Me. I WANT TO HELP. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU. |

Dear Sir: War photography by JamesSnatchtwey depicts the savagery, barbarity of humans on other humans. Unless the world bans war, we are heading for extingtion, through terrorism perpitrated through WMD. Are Humans the modern day dynasours? Please tell me how I can obtain a dozen photographs from this documentary to insert on my site www.desperdes.us, with my Gandhi link which is under creation. I will indeed be obliged for any help you can give to me to expose the evil of war to humanity around the world. Thanks, Best regards, Arvind Amin. Love all, hate none. ask34amin@aol.com |

Jim, I watched your documentary last night and was sleepless for the rest of the night. It sometimes hurt to watch because it was so painful but I felt to switch the channel was a "cop out" of sorts and an insult to your life long courage and pursuit of truth. I have wasted too may years feeling helpless to stop the tide of cruelty and inhumanity that sweeps across our globe. And yet strangly I have always felt that good will prevail and that most people are fundamentally good. I have made a commitment now to Get Involved, no more excuses about my busy life etc. I would like to search for some type of organization that is in sync with global peace and the elimination of severe third world poverty. If you or Christian have any organizations that you feel are vitally connected and committed to theses goal please suggest a few. If you can't reply rest assured I will seek that information on my own. God bless and please be careful, Kathleen |

I finally had the opportunity to watch the movie last night at a fellow photojournalist's home. Thanks more than you know - it comforts me knowing that people are trying to show this - I am a photojournalist here in the states, but someday hope to head out and try, in some small way, to do what you have done, to witness what you have and to try to make a difference in making pictures. I thank you more than you can ever realize. Ross |

James, I have just seen your film on HBO and believe it is the best work I have ever had the opportunity to witness. You have ignited a fire in me that I thought was long time extinguished. You have been touched by the hand of God, and through you, he has reminded me of my path. My prayers from this day will be with you. Thank you for following your calling and may you be showered with blessings because of it. |

Dear Mr.Frei and Mr.Nachtwey, You are incredibly tough. I saw the film at Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography last week. It is really a great documentary. I was deeply moved by your energy, sincerity and belief in humanity. I always feel helpless as a member of a humanitarian organization facing many absurd realities in "developing"countries. But your film made my drive alive again. I am very glad to live in this world and time together with you and those involved in making this brilliant documentary, and wish many people could see your work on TV here in Japan too. with full of thanks, respects and admirations, T |

I have seen the film two times. And I wont to say thanks because you has showed something very important and something what concern everyone. I respect your work because it is important to those who suffers in war. =) Jenna |

It's been a year since I last watched "War Photographer" on TV but my soul cannot rest till now.The picture of an armless and legless father washing for his child in Jakarda keeps wander around my mind.I was crying whenever I think of all these tragedies, neglected truth and Jame's passion. His work did enormous impact on me which I'm studying journalism and photography.I can't tell how deeply he touches me thru the camera but I'm so glad that I have a chance to share my feelings here, with you--may be living in the other side of the globe. Thanks so much James, you are brilliant, you inpired me so much and added a dream of my life, which is meeting you and interviewing you some days in the future.Thank you, all you've shown had made me a better person with compassion and courage. |

I could not look away from what was unbearable, that I felt was all of humanity's shared sorrow and resposibility. Thank you for bringing it to us, that we not look askance. |

Awesome work. I think just like Michael Moore's films this one really gives me the dose of reality I'm looking for. It's really inspiring to see people who care about humanity so much they risk their own lives to kind of give voices to the voiceless. So when is this going to be sold in the united states? Hopefully before the 2004 election so we can fatten our activist tool kits and get the war mongers out of office. Peace. |

I just wanted to say how moved I was from the war photographer documentary. James, you should be so proud of what you are trying to accomplish for humanity with your pictures. It is working. And Christian, for you to convey James’s quest through this documentary was incredibly noble. I really hope the community sees this documentary and things start to change. There really is so much sadness and suffering in this world and there is no need of it. Thank you so much for this gift. |

Sorry for the last minute notice here, but I just saw in the Globe & Mail TV Listings that CBC Newsworld's Passionate Eye program has scheduled repeat broadcasts of "War Photographer" at 10pm (22:00hrs) EST on Sunday July 20 and at 1am (1:00hrs) EST on Monday July 21, 2003. It is scheduled for 90 minutes, but this is the TV edit of the film (about 55 minutes long) and will be interrupted by newscasts and commercials. |

‘War Photographer’ is an awe-inspiring documentary about an awe-inspiring photographer. This is not just the finest documentary I have ever seen; it is one of the finest films I have ever seen. Through all the pain and suffering James Nachtwey’s compassion shines through. He surely ranks as one of the greatest photographers of all time. |

An absolutelty beautiful and moving film, capturing the intense humanitarian drive and determination of a very quiet and reserved individual. The imagry of Nachtewy's photographs, and tone of the film itself, lure us up from the couch, away from our gathered comforts and safe lives. And deposit us inside the drama, awaken us to a reality. Not in a violent or jarring manner, as many pieces of war photo-journalism can do, but in a conscious manner, buoyed by Nachtewy's respect and sensitivity for the subject. A very important film, on a model man. |

I can't even begin to describe how moved and inspired I was by this documentry of James Nachtwey's work and more importantly, it's purpose. You always know that things are worse somewhere else for someone else but you can never truely understand the degree of their pain and suffering. James allows us to have a closer look, to think and feel. |

Thank you James for showing us the most important things that ironcially we rarely see. Stories about the pain of the millions of have-nots, who suffer at the direct and indirect hands of those who live for abundance. This film is incredible.I work in journalism and I can so relate to the lack of demand/venue for meaningful stories. Thanks to all involved for a gripping, responsible insightful and truthful documentary. Human life means very little all over the planet. It is so fragile. Sadly what really divides us is position, opportunity and experience. |

A remarkable documentary. Watching this documentary is unlike watching war photographs in Time magazine "with a Rolex watch ad on the next page". It really moves you and makes you think about the large number of people who are suffering at war at this very moment. James is a witness who brings us powerful messages about the inferno of war and poverty in many parts of the world. Every one should watch it, especially those who are living in cities and enjoying life like us! |

James I have a chance to watch a Hong Kong TV programme "War Photographer" last night (May 10,2003), this is one of the best programmes I have ever seen, the images and the video shown is so impressive and, shock...but the most impressed is you. James, please received my sincere respects to you, for presenting us all these people that we should care. You sounds so calm and cool in the interview but I could feel your sadness in your eyes and your compassionate mind. When there are people who need help in the world, what I could do is to donate money to the Charity Organization yet it might change little. But with the very impressive images you present to this world and the meanings you carried to us, it work a lot. James, I expressed my sincere gratitude to your works and your compassionate mind to help this world to be awared of those in need. March on, we need you, this world needs you. May you be safe on work and may God bless you, always. with love and respect Jessica Lau |

I've seen the "War Photographer" on a TV programme in Hong Kong last night. I am deeply moved, and I think it's a powerful means to protest against the inhumanity of war, of poverty, of every kind of violences and human sufferings which still prevails, ironically, in this so-called civilised world. Thanks to James and Christian Frei. |

Dear James Nachtwey: Thanks for sharing your life experience of photography with all of us. I have been taking pictures forever and just now I am going to College to learn all I can about the passion and dedication that you have put into this wonderful life. I am no longer just taking photography and journalism classes but now everything I can find about James Nachtwey. I have printed off much of your work and interviews so that when others do not understand who you are and why I am so passionate about sharing you... they then get it too. I had some older friends who were in Viet Nam and they really appreciate your work. Now, I would love to read and see the work you came home with from Ireland. My Grandparents on both sides are from Ireland the Hurley's and O'briens. My Daughter Kathleen and I will be going to Ireland in the next 6 months to work for a month through our Colleges in hopes of bringing the passion home with us. Please if anyone knows how to hook up with James Nachtwey in seminar form or anything... he has changed the way I think of photography. Okay, I know, I used the word passion a million times but sometimes it is the only word that explains how I feel. Sincerely: Donna Hall and Kathleen Hall Cincinnati, Ohio |

I went to HK international film festival and see this film. It is so true and inspiring. I started to feel bad for we who live in a rich country to take things for granted. I want to watch the film twice and ask my classmates to watch. (however, we can't have the chance because we miss the show). So I start working on a project about war photographer and those african country. I am still working on that. How can I contact James? |

Thank you for making a film that (indirectly)confronts the current lack of empathy that journalism is suffering from. This morning I saw Katie Couric laughing with her gang, and I wondered how our TV news has become so self-involved, so shallow and uniformative. Thank you for showing us an artist who truly understands his responsibilty, and by doing so, gives us the chance to become more aware. I was deeply moved. Please send Mr. Bush a copy of this DVD. |

James, really thank you for giving me a great inspiration. I had thought of majoring in photojournalism when I was studying my undergraduate more than ten years ago. Finally, I chose to major in social work. I am still a social worker and a photo enthusiast now. I still have a dream that I can use photography to expose the dark side of the society that I am dealing with everyday. I want to increase the awareness of the people and hope that everyone can do their parts to make a better world. I did take pictures from time to time to pursue my dream. I am so glad to see your film and your work. I have learned a lot from your values and work attitudes. These will be very precious inspirations in my pursuit of dream as well as my daily work as a social worker, too. I will try to get your DVD and show it to all my colleagues. I am sure you will inspire them, too. By the way, I really hope that your DVD will have Chinese subtitles in the future. Take care and may God bless you! Albert Yu Hong Kong |
